Short article in local newspaper
The 6th of February 2017, the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation, a short article was published in a local newspaper (Brabants Dagblad).
The article is published in Dutch, but here is the translation in English:
This is the week of: Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting.
Every Monday someone from the region tells about the special week that awaits him or her. This week it’s Annemarie Middelburg (30).
Today is the International Day of Zero Tolerance against FGM/C. The UN classifies FGM/C as a human rights violation. Annemarie Middelburg obtained her PhD last year at Tilburg University with a thesis on this topic. “Compliance with UN treaties can be improved. In the Netherlands, about 50 girls run the risk to undergo the practice in their country of origin every year. The Zero Tolerance Day can contribute to raising awareness on this topic.”
