EIGE Publication on FGM in the EU and Croatia

April 1, 2013

In 2012, EIGE launched a ‘Study to map the current situation and trends of female genital mutilation in 27 EU Member States (MS) and Croatia’ at the request of EU Commissioner Viviane Reding. It was the first EU-wide study on the practice Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting. The outcome of the project is a report, that aims to support policy makers and all relevant institutions by providing them with reliable and comparable data for evidence-based actions and policy improvement in the area of FGM/C. The report also provides recommendations on how to protect and support girls and women who have undergone the practice.

This report is published in 2013 and available in English. The country fact sheets that were developed for each EU country are available here. These fact sheets include information on the legal framework, policy framework and prevalence of FGM/C in the respective countries.
